FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICE LODGE #7 MEMORIAL
|
|
 |
In
October of 1996, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #7
installed an eleven ton granite monument to immortalize the
Akron Police Officers who have given their lives in the line
of duty. The monument was erected in front of the Harold K.
Stubbs Justice Center, 217 S. High St, Akron.
On
the facade of the monument is the badge of an Akron Police
Officer, the symbol of the Fraternal Order of Police, and the
inscribed names of the twenty officers who have made the
ultimate sacrifice for the citizens of Akron. |
|
|
The
design of the memorial was drafted by Brother Tom Zehner and
erected by the North Hill Marble and Granite Company. The money to
pay for the monument was raised through various fund raisers
including the sale of T-shirts, miniaturized Akron police
cruisers, and a dinner/dance titled "A Culinary Night to
Remember".
Pictured (L-R) are Officer Tom Zehner (designer), Sgt. Bill Hoover
(President, FOP #7), Chief of Police Edward Ervine, and Mike Buzzi
